Barack Obama and the Bible; Has his legendary story been foretold?

Our Pastor, Tolan J. Morgan Sr was the first person to reveal the fact that President Barack Obama was a namesake of a very important person in The Bible to me [and maybe a few others as well]. Although he only made a mention of the point at that time, because the main focus of the sermon was to show the blessings that would follow President Barack Obama; his sermon was titled: "Barack". Pastor Morgan went on to discuss how the meaning of ' Barak' was being blessed. The term used in this manner for our President Barack Obama, meant that he was blessed as Christ was, with 100% of two separate entities; in this case, being that President Barack Obama was both, 100% African-American and 100% White-American. The sermon furthered with more details of how President Barack Obama was parallel with Christ concerning the 'blessings' possessed, but used to help a nation; it's a tough job out there, and someone... only the chosen one, can tackle that job, and with character. I must admit that there wasn't a dry eye in the place, by the end of the sermon.

I was intrigued by knowing that my president could possibly be a mention from The Bible; how great is that? To have this leader whose stories were foretold years before his creation. See, I am a firm believer in the Word, and I have Faith not seen, and Grace not asked for; and I drink of the Living Water. And to know that this story has been written for all to gain knowledge and recognition of, is just like a 'sign from God'...and I appreciate it! Thanks to all my spirits for it!

My story begans in the book of Hebrews, Chapter 11; Barak is stated among a few others as being those " who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight..." {Heb. 11:33-4}

I couldn't believe what I was reading! Could it be possible that our President was being described in these passages? The words were describing Barack Obama and our [America]present situations to a tee! I wanted to know more, so I looked at the cross references to the first mention of 'Barak'. My search led me to the book of Judges, where a prophetess by the name of Deborah summoned for a great warrior named Barak to help the people of Israel. And just to paraphrase it [Judg. 4:16] to make a long story short, Barak defeated the armies. The verse states: "...Not a man was left..." Now, is that a hero or what?..!

If there is any chance of this being a miracle come to life, then bring on the miracles! But I for one, am elated to just have some hope in the chance that this story of a biblical time actually coming to fruition today through our President, Barack Obama. To say the least in my opinion, I feel he is definitely the man to do it...somehow I can truly see the biblical Barak being the spirit living in our President Barack Obama. Any possibility?

Hi Ronyae, very interesting article, one I found difficult to read for my emotions were being carried away. Nevertheless, I love and respect you as a person, friend and writer. You told your tale well.

As far as Barack being the one mentioned in Hebrews and other places, I can say with confidence in Bible knowledge that they most certainly do not speak of Barak, our current president. The people listed in the hall of faith in Hebrews were all accounted for and none of them rejected God's holiness and truth. (Our president does) Also, the bible is clear that there is only one Chosen One and that is the Jesus Christ. I couldn't possibly list all the reasons here in my comment back to you, but I would encourage you to reread the Book of Hebrews, it is clear Jesus is the the one chosen by God.

I don't mean to put down your pastor or your belief in anyway and I certainly hope this puts no hard feelings between us. Just because our president was named after Barak of the Old Testament, does not mean he is Barak of the Old Testament. There is no reincarnation or spirit surfing taught in the bible. One life, one spirit, then judgement as the book of Hebrews goes on to teach.

Anyway, I don't mean to sound mean, yet I know there is no way around it, call it the teacher in me :-)

I would love to continue this conversation and more indepth study of the Scriptures you mentioned if you wish between ourselves. If not, that's okay too.

Peace and blessings to you! Teresa

Teresa,
     Thanks for reading and sharing your comment.  I am in no way offended by your comment, and I appreciate your honesty in sharing your opinions.
     Of course I know that there may NOT be any relation to the biblical 'Barak' and our President Barack Obama, but this writing was one of pure entertainment that would stimulate the 'what if's in life.  And I didn't write this to offend anyone or ruffle any feathers, but it seems I did anyway.  Apologies can be stated, but what the hek - are they necessary?  This is a place to flow passion, share expertise, create friends and get exposure, so why should it not be a place for hopes and dreams?
     And I have read the story outlined in the book of Hebrews, and I know that The Bible teaches us that the 'Chosen One' was labeled for Christ...but Christ Lives!  So, my question is now, if Christ lives, and possibly in all of us, then the each and everyone of us are 'chosen' right?  Could that be possible?
    But I appreciate any and all that read and share comments.

Hi Ronyae, glad to hear it :-)

To answer you question, the Bible says Christ lives in those who call upon him for salvation and freedom from sin by the Holy Spirit, God draws all men to Himself, but only those who respond are the chosen by Christ.

I don't think you offended--I think you stimulated thought and that makes you an amazing writer, which is why I am your fan. I agree, this is a place for hope, friendship, and different perspectives that stimulate healthy discussion.  I believe its how we grow.

Blessings and hugs to you.

Ronyae, I agree with Teresa Ortiz wholeheartedly. I was not in any way offended by this article, rather I found it interesting in concept. As Teresa stated, with God, all things are possible. If Our new president will ask God for help, which I think he will call on the REAL commander in cheif, he will be blessed with God's guidence. I have great hopes for this young president, and I think your article was very good. I love the different opinions that I read about this article, and you certainly do know how to stimulate good thought. The sign of a good writer!!! Well done, and I am a fan of yours....good write.

Please don't take my words as mean spirited, I don't mean them that way, I just wanted you to consider something. As I am a Christian and a believer in the Holy Scriptures.
First let me say this, I can understand why you are proud of Barack Obama being president, having said that let me just say this.
You mentioned the sermon was more detailed of how Barack Obama was parallel with Christ and pointed out some reasons and that he has a name mentioned in the Bible.
I'm sure you seen on TV when he spoke of the scriptures Leviticus, Deuteronomy, those were the Law Of Moses to the Hebrews from God when they had no civil laws from a King at that time and those laws were done away with when God sent His Son Jesus Christ and the "Sermon On The Mount" that Jesus gave see Matt.5
He was actually mocking those scriptures.
Also, there are many people named today that carries the same names as those in the Bible but they are in no way connected to being special over anyone else today.
The Bible states in John 11:5 that Jesus loved  Martha and her sister and Lazarus and Mary, Martha's sister was the one that anointed Jesus feet
it also mentions in another scripture "The disciple that Jesus loved" {unnamed}
Now no where else in scripture was it ever stated where Jesus actually loved a particular person(s). There are a lot of Mary's, Marthas, even some Larzarus'es today but they are in no way made special or blessed over anyone else in the sight of God. Jesus never even called His mother Mary {mother] He called her woman.
My great-grandfather's name was Moses, my great uncle was named Solomon, there are a lot of David's { and David was the apple of God's eye} these three were a lot greater and loved more by God than the man named Barack in the Bible.
I just wanted to mention this so that you don't lose your perspective on things or people when it comes to spiritual matters.
We are to respect those in authority, but in no way are we to compare them to our Lord and Savior. We are to trust God for all our needs, not man.
Anyway like I said, I just didn't want you to lose your perspective and I don't mean anything in a mean spirit.
Have a blessed day.

Thanks Julie for reading and commenting. I appreciate your message, and just wanted to assure any and all that I didn't compose this to say that Barack Obama is a fallen Angel ... or, is he? But, I wrote this to state just as you have, Julie about Biblical names; [to me]-which means My Opinion-a biblical name gives the namesake a special kind of position in life, like I said: to me. Great-granfather Moses. I'm sure he was a stand-up man, righteous in his own way; perhaps a leader of sorts. This Julie, is why I state [representation]. Moses was a leader in the Biblical days, perhaps being named 'Moses' has some mystical guide to your great-grandfather being such a leader in your family, his community/neighborhood, or his job. It's just an opinionated thought that I have shared by-maybe-others who demonstrate our spirituality in the same manner.

Thanks, again for reading and sharing your comment, and no I'm not offended by it. I welcome it, Julie.

Truly, I also believe the meteoric rise of this (might I say dashing) young black politician -- I know it is fulfilled prophecy. He stands on the shoulders of giants. As he says, he has a deep love of country, but his success would not be possible without the giants who went before, their sacrifices, their valor and patriotism, the prophetic courage of Martin Luther King. I see him, God willing, as a strong healing influence in our land. May each faction, for once, rise to its duties and work together for once, instead of division and negativity.

Ronyae your article was fabulous! I've seen judgemental statements and I've seen statements of encouragement. People could never get the full affect of the sermon if they was not there. A sermon is nothing but taking biblical doctrine and applying them to our everday living and God has entrusted us w/ people in the earth to bring about change, Have we forgotten about the disciples who did the same miracles that Jesus did w/ the power of the Holy Spirit. One thing about the Bible is that it was inspired by God and we will never know the mysterious of God, therefore one may gett a different relevation on a particular scripture than another would according to how the Holy Spirit blesses them. Keep up the good work I know you believe on the living God and you support your president as you should be able to because none of us has walked this earth perfect, and God has annointed rulers of the earth to govern us. I look forward to sharing with you when you add more articles

Was Jesus trying to warn us about who the Anti-Christ would be like ?

We know the anti-Christ will be a popular, good looking, smooth talking, sophisticated man who will come out of the old Roman Empire and take over the world. Jesus may have said: "I saw Satan fall like 'baraq O bamah'" Luke 10:18 ~Read on for more understanding.

Remember, Jesus expects us to use the good brain that He gave us when He said:

"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewed as serpents and innocent as doves." -Matthew 10:16

Go to YouTube search and type in: Original Video - Did Jesus give us the name of the AntiChrist?

In Luke 10:18 Jesus talks about Satan. Jesus spoke Aramaic, but was also very familiar with the Hebrew language. Undoubtedly, there were times when He quoted Old Testement scripture (also called the Torah for Jewish people) in Hebrew at times when He was teaching His disciples. It is certainly possible that He might have spoken this entire quote from Luke 10:18 in Hebrew !

Wow! You're really reaching for something & coming up with nothing! You might as well say Lincoln was the father of the world because his name is Abraham & Abraham is God's friend in the Bible. Obama is a racist & an anti semite. Maybe Barak in the Bible helped Israel but your boy Obama does not respect or help Israel or Jews at all.
And you misquoted a lot of the cripture here. Obama is a crook & has committed treason & should be impeached immediately because HE IS NOT EVEN AMERICAN! Quit looking at color & look at the man! Black, white, mixed, red, yellow, he is going to go down in history as the worst president ever! He has bankrupted our great land in to Alien lenders, and that is biblical prophecy. He will be a 1 term president & he has ruined our country to where we will be lucky to ever come back from this brink of destruction. And people, quit blaming Bush for Obama's flaws. Open your eyes, help save America & really read & LIVE by God's word!

You speak foolishly. All of the problems you mentioned happened long before obama was elected. Your hatred is unjust, you must be self-aware of your thoughts and understand the truth through wisdom. To allow hatred to take over your heart only pulls you away from God.

I'm sorry, but while I can understand God setting up a synchronicity over the course of millennia in which two people with the same name parallel one another, such as to make some important point to the world, the idea I seem to be getting from comment replies that this would automatically happen is a bit mind-breaking. As someone else said, there are a LOT of people out there with Biblical names, and assuming they all have some sort of spiritual or subconscious guidance thing going on in connection with their namesakes kind of strikes me in the same way as horoscopes. (The latter of which always gives me a weird mental image of one twelfth of a town finding their true loves on the same day at the same spot.) Now, I've heard of a study in which a person's name strongly influenced their behavior...indirectly, based on the way people in their specific society treated them as a result of their names. (Wish I had time to look it up.) I mean, we don't even know yet that the other poster's great-grandfather Moses was a leader or anything else in common with the historical Moses.

Heh, I'm sorry if this sounds unintentionally rude. I'm kind of in a hurry because the computer lab is closing. ^_^;

At least this article provides an interesting and uncommonly-heard perspective.
