Parents received a scare after their children returned home from Detroit Central High School with a letter, stating that an individual in the school may have Tuberculosis (TB) disease.
The letter sent to parents also stated that a general information sharing meeting for interested individuals was scheduled, and that members of the staff for the Detroit Health Department and Detroit Public School will be available to answer any questions.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection caused by slow-growing bacteria that grow best in areas of the body that have lots of blood and oxygen; and is often found in the lungs, which gives the name pulmonary TB. This form of TB is contagious, and can be spread by the infected person breathing out infectious bacteria, then an un-infected person breathing in that infectious air. Now, that's very scary people!
Some symptoms of Tuberculosis may be: a bad cough, usually associated with thick, cloudy or bloody mucus from your lungs; swelling in the neck; shortness of breath, chest pains; night sweats and fevers, just to name a few. This is not to say that if you have these symptoms, it doesn't mean that you have contracted TB, but do get yourself checked out by a physician to be safe. Like I always say: "It's better to be safe than sorry"!

hi ronyae, thanks for sharing this information with us. it's so scary being a mom in these days, and then to have this added to the other problems out there is frustrating, and brings about fear. i hope all goes well for all the students and staff at the school.my best regards, sueSue,Thanks for the concern; as of today, they narrowed it down and was able to state who was the infected student. His parents have been notified, and so far no extra bad news has returned home with the students. Prayers are still afloat, tho'.Stay Blessed
