First off, let me make it known that I am not, and have no intentions of calling anyone a 'dummy', except maybe, myself. (smile) I've enlarged the picture for some of my readers to get a better view at the images. Thanks for all your help, Warpies!
My assistant and I were at a local grocer and saw this image while there:
As we noticed the strange truck (liner), we could hear a motor running, and then we wondered if the blue thing was attached to the truck, as a generator or something. My journalism skills weren't kicking in strong enough, and it really had me puzzled. So, after long consideration, we gave up and entered the grocer, leaving me with question marks swarming over my head.
My fellow writers and readers, my question is: "What do you think it is? Why is it connected to the grocer, and what could it be doing for the grocer?" If you know, or have any suggestions, please share them with a 'journalism dummy' like myself. Thanks!

Hi Ronyae! The trailer you are asking about is known in the industry as the "Salvage" truck. The motor you hear running is the refrigeration unit on the trailer. When loads of perishables come into the stores, the truckers generally have to get back on the road as quickly as possible, so perishables are sometimes loaded directly into the salvage truck. In the store coolers, when a new load comes in, the items already in stock have to be moved out, the new stuff is then added to the bottom of the stack, or back of the room, and the older is brought to the front so it gets put out to consumers first. The salvage truck serves to keep new stock fresh and out of the way, until all the re-arranging is completed.I only know all this because the Hubs works for Kroger, and has first hand experience with the salvage truck.Have a great day!NNila,You are my latest mentor! WOW, and I almost had a feeling of that being what the trailer was ... And now I'm even more peeved at the process. I cannot believe that they are lawful to do this. Thanks Nila, for helping a couple of 'Journalism Dummies'!Stay Blessed
Great article. Well done.I would say it is an artic lorry attached to the back of the store to be used as a cheap cool-store.Connor,Seems you are correct as well. Nila just broke it down for me, to a tee! Thanks for your help with my quest!
Is the blue thing just keeping the trailer level? I can't tell from this view. I've seen refrigerator truck like this parked in a supermarket bay for special sale events, when there's not ample freezer/refrigerator storage inside the store for all the product at once, but I've never seen the blue thing. Clueless!Anonymous,It was hard for us to actually tell if the blue tank was connecte or not, without being a suspicious threat to the workers standing just below the trailer. But, your suggestion is a good one, because that is what the trailer is there for. Thanks for helping me! Stay Blessed, Anonymous.
Sounds like Nila answered all our questions. Great job Ronyae and you too Nila. Now we all know. Great day to you both.SandraMs. Sandra, yes Nila did, and I'm filled with glee that she nailed it with the first comment! Thanks to you, both. Stay Blessed
I've already commented and rated this one, but I don't mind doing it again. Interesting story and pic. I agree with Nila.Have a good one.SandraThanks Ms. Sandra!
Okay Ronyae,I brought hubby in on this one (he knows an awful lot about this kind of stuff and happens to be in the transportation industry) and he wants you to resize the picture so that he can read the information on the blue box.He also says the truck is already level because of the support. And, regarding Nila's suggestion, the box isn't large enough to store too much of anything.Looking forward to hearing back from you,NancyPS Now you've got me curious...and by the way, you must be a journalist. I would have walked right by that thing and not given it a second thought!Okay Nancy, I'll try to re-size it, now. Thanks ... and, tell hubby thanks, too!Ronyae,Based upon the Flammable Placard on the blue container, Phil would say it is an auxiliary fuel tank for the refrigeration unit when the trailer is parked for an extended amount of time.Nancy,Tell him "Thanks"! And, you, too (smile)
Hi Ronyae,My guess would be that it is a refrigeration unit. It probably is attached to the bay because the owner or the building ran out of warehouse space. LOLThanks.NenitaNenita (I just love that name!)I'm LOL, but you are probably right! Thanks for reading and sharing a comment.
There's a niche for this kind of article here, taking a picture, briefly describing the circumstances of the event, and asking readers to come up with explanations.Do I have it anonymous?
