More than the ending of a school year excites the children of Detroit. Summer brings along more time to play! Here's a guide to the top three places local children visit to beat the summer's heat. I'm sharing this guide to not only give venues in my local area, but to maybe give tips to help you discover ways to help your children get out of the house, in front of a video game, and enjoy the summer like children are supposed to. Well, at least like we did when I was younger.
There are several places that the general population of Detroit attend yearly, like the festivals held at Hart Plaza. But I want to get more local, and list venues that the children in my neighborhood and family visit during the summer months.
The first place any of the children in our family shout when asked where they want to go is, " Jungle Java!" Jungle Java is a local venue that offer a family-friendly environment, allowing the parents to enjoy treats from a deli-style cafe and the children a play gym. Jungle Java has an online parent 4-star rating score. And, if it were up to the children in our family, the stars would blow the charts. Jungle Java also help with celebrating birthdays.
We have a lot of family on the eastside of Detroit, and a good meeting place for eastsider's would be the Chandler Park Family Aquatic Center. Now, if you are looking for fun with water, the water park at Chandler Park is the closest place. But there is also a water park at Belle Isle, which is another favorite of Detroiters. Located in the heart of Chandler Park on Detroit's eastside, the water park has two slides and a water-play area for the little ones. Also on-site, refreshments and gifts. But, I must warn you, the water park gets crowded very fast; being a great local place for children to cool off, the summers find this park filled as early as 12 noon on some days. This goes for saying if you plan to have a child's birthday party at the park as well. A great idea for having a child's party at the park, is to set the party food and favors up around a picnic area.
And last, but definitely not least, a new hype has arrived with children having birthday parties at bowling lanes. Several bowling lanes help with birthday parties, and offer reasonable packages for the honoree and guests. A favorite among the bowlers would be Regal Lanes on the northeast side of Detroit. Regal Lanes have coupons, and other discounts to assist the visitors and bowlers.
No matter which choice you choose to beat the summer's heat, there are many choices for residents in Detroit, Michigan, and in your city as well. So, get those children out of the house ... Let the fun begin!

Top-level comments on this article: (7 total)There is no reason for kids to be cooped up in the house over the summer. It seems that in most places summer is too short, so the kids should be outside enjoying nature. In Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where I live, we have an extensive network of walking/bicycle paths throughout the city. We also have many very large parks. One of these parks is actually a Provincial Park, which means it is natural, not groomed. In this park we even have coyotes roaming around (not something you necessarily want to meet up with).I found this excerpt about Calgary's walking pathways."In the late 1960s, Calgarians began envisioning a system of connected pathways on which they could travel throughout the city and access areas of unique natural beauty. The first completed section of the Pathway was through Confederation Park in the early 1970's. Then paths along the Bow River and Elbow River, made from crushed red shale (clinker shale from burned out coal seams), were constructed before asphalt paths replaced the shale.""Today, approximately 660 km of pathways connect along the Bow & Elbow Rivers, Fish Creek Provincial Park, Nose Creek, West Nose Creek, the Western Irrigation District Canal and the perimeter of Glenmore Reservoir. With approximately another 290 km of on-street bikeways, The City of Calgary boasts the most extensive urban pathway and bikeway network in North America."I'm not meaning to brag, but I think this is something of which we can be proud. And I'm sure every major city in Canada and the USA has many outdoor facilities to enjoy in the summer.I agree, David. Something to definitely be proud of, so brag away! I personally always remember on Gladstone and LaSalle nr Linwood when summer hit, we were always treated to "Street Showers." The Firemen visit the neighborhood and open the plugs (fire hydrants). I am 64 now...smile...Dr! A fellow 'Linwood-er'! I live just across the street from Central High School's football field. WOW, to come across someone from the 'hood' is fabulous! Hello neighbor (smile). Thanks for reading and sharing such a nostalgic comment.
In the UK the weather is not usually that hot in the summer, but as you said its good to be outside. I'm a big kid a heart because i love water parks, but i imagine that in America they are a lot bigger and better. The summer is good as when i get home from work i can still go out on the bikes with my kids.Another great article, thankyou RonyaeSam,You're like me - a big kid at heart! It's great to meet another one (smile).
