I have always loved to visit libraries; a place to not only find your favorite book, a referen
ce for a skilled trade, or to search archived newspapers and other media outlets. Libraries have widened their variety to add selections of DVDs that may be checked out as well; when tax season comes around, I can get tax forms/booklets at the library as well as finding a water quality report on a certain neighborhood, and/or city. There is limitless information that can be found at your local library.
One can imagine my glee when I recently made a visit to my neighborhood library, and to my surprise, another wonderful opportunity presented itself: free visits to several museums in our metro Detroit and surrounding areas! Yes, I can now visit a library, and use my library card to get a free pass to visit any museum of my choice (from a list of participating museums).

The Detroit Adventure Pass was started 2 years ago, as a collaboration with Libraries of Michigan Foundation, Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan and Macy's. Designed to bring hands-on experience of Michigan's history - past, present and future, as inspired by the arts and sciences.
I see this new program as a great way for Michigan resients to explore the some of the great things that Michigan has to offer in the world of Arts and Sciences. And, I submit this as a collection for a refence to knowing your state's history; and a reference to having constructive recreational activities. Check your local library to see if you'll have the opportunity of a lifetime!

Top-level comments on this article: (10 total)Hi Ronyae, you are right libraries are a wonderful source of information as you would expect, and it is a brilliant idea to offer free passes to museums. In the economic downturn these passes could be great for families, it opens up these wonderful places of history and information for kids, and means you can have a good day out without spending a fortune. ThankyouHello Samuel, you have stated it in a nutshell! Thanks for reading and sharing a comment.
The library is such an underutilized resource. I'll have to see if our local library system has made the same museum connection.Sounds good, Steve. And, welcome to my blogs.
I share your excitement about visiting libraries. Each time I visit one I gain a wealth of knowledge and exciting experiences. Thanks for sharing.Thank you, Jena for reading and sharing your comment. Sometimes, I feel like a child visiting Santa when I go to the library (smile).
I must admit that I haven't been in a library for quite some time, but I did own a used book store a few years ago. My wife ran the store, but I would take any opportunity I could to be there and help out. I just loved being surrounded by all those books.David, I agree. I feel so 'at home' when I'm surrounding by vast amounts of knowledge. Thanks for reading and sharing your comment.
Thanks Ronyae. Following my older brother's lead (back in the day), I personally found it exciting when teachers at times would ask and I would know. All because of snooping in the Library. It would be nice if more families would encourage their children of the fun of the Libraries today! However, the TVs, Games, and IPODs still get the attention. Thanks Ronyae.Dr. You are so right about this new-age "iWorld" going on today. I'm almost afraid for our future. Thanks for reading and sharing a great comment, and also one that needs to be heard!Stay Blessed!
Great advice. We pay taxes to support public libraries, so it's nice to receive some bonuses. Good article!Grammy! You got that right (smile). It feels good to be appreciated. Thanks for stopping by to read and share a great comment.

Alright, I'll be the stick in the mud here: Good article, very good. However structure means everything. If you took your 2nd last paragraph and used it as a first, then you'd have the 'inverted pyramid' structure, which tells your readers what the article is about and then follows with your opinions. Anyway, just a thought. Keep it up!Thanks, Quiet Writer!!!
Wonderful article, Ronyae. Libraries are still remarkable places--they can never be replaced by the computer. Thanks for sharing.SandraI must agree, Ms. Sandra! They can never be replaced. Thanks for reading and sharing a comment.
