Inside My Elbow

I had an itch, but when someone asked me where, all I could say was, "inside my elbow." The person looked at me as if I had spoken a foreign language that they obviously couldn't comprehend. But to me, it was like stating that the sky is blue. Is it really blue? Is my itch really inside my elbow?

According to Probert's Encyclopaedia the point of my itch is described as an articulation; serves as a hinge joint for the elbow. The outer skin area has no name.

This makes me wonder where actually am I scratching? I'm sorry, but to say I have an itch in my articulation sounds a bit absurd, right? Well, maybe it's me, but I couldn't go around saying that I'm scratching my articulation.

A debate ensued as my opinions and my associate's opinions became widespread, and others soon joined in. Many agreed that it was simply my arm that was itching. But in my defense, I opposed, held my point that it wasn't my entire arm, but just a small area of my arm ... which indeed, to me was the 'inside of my elbow'.

What would you call the area that is on the inside of your arm, in the same [place] as your elbow?

"I'm scratching my articulation"

Next time I get an itch there, that's what I'm going to say. As a matter of fact, I think I'll just say it . . . whenever, I like it so much ;=)

Thanks Laura.  The terms used to describe the actual inside of the skin-area have given me a good laugh, so much until I may start using them!

Ronyae, I will stick with "the inside of my elbow" also. Your article reminded me of my daughter...years ago, when she was just learning to talk, she called it a "belbow" and it has stuck in our family. Now, we all have belbows.

Lorrie, tell your daughter "Thanks!"  It feels good to share unfathomable knowledge like she and I (smile).  Thanks for reading and sharing a comment, Lorrie.

It's "right here, Ronyae" . . . pointing to the inside of my elbow! LOL

That is too cute. My former hubby and I would talk like that, admittedly. He received a British education and is proper.  He always cracked me up and since we were friends for 17 years before ruining it by getting married, he didn't get upset with me when I poked fun at him. I scratched his articulation many times! LOLOL

I'm getting silly and should try to sleep. I enjoyed this article, Ronyae. Thanks!

Your silly aunt,
Avis

Hi Ronyae.

I agree with all the others. This is a cute article.

Personally, I call that area the "crease" of my elbow. But I don't really see what the problem is with "inside of."

Thanks for the fun,
Dianne

Dianne, You are a Genius!  The crease.  I wouldn't have imagined calling it that-which is exactly what that part of the arm is....WOW.  Thanks Dianne.  I'm grinning from ear to ear, to have found the ending for the debate and remain right, victorious.

At least you can scratch that itch yourself. The worst ones are where you can't reach and can't find a sympathetic person to do it for you.
