Michigan-born author E. Lynn Harris was openly gay, and was considered a pioneer for being the first novelist to tap on the subject of black men being "in the closet", or "on the down low" - before becoming famous terms.

Although Harris was born in Flint, Michigan, he was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. Becoming University of Arkansas' first African American cheerleader, Harris' love for sports became the co-base for majority of his writing projects. Homosexuality being the second base.
His debut Novel, self-published Invisible Life was just the beginning, and Harris leaves his supporters and readers 10 novels published by Double Day; Just As I Am, What Becomes of the Brokenhearted - which is non-fiction, just to name a couple.
All 10 of Harris' novels have been best-sellers, including the non-fiction novel, and in 1994 Anchor Books made a paperback of his debut novel.
It's a great loss for the entertainment world as well as the literary. But, it's also a wondrous thing that people like E. Lynn Harris has paved the way for expressionists a.k.a. artists of creativity. This being people like us: writers, authors, and believers in a dream.

how sad, yet, how wonderful!Just look at how how much he was able to create and be a material success at it,before he ran back to Heaven,to await us!Perfectly stated, Paul. Thanks for reading and sharing your comment.
Information on people's lives like Harris and many others surely does inspire the coming generations to realize their dreams, their rights and freedom. And such stories should be told time and again to the world, so it creates a spark in young people's hearts and ignites a flame of revolution, a change for the better.Drunken Mystic, your title states one thing, but your comment is spoken in sober words. Sober and true! Thanks for reading and sharing a comment ... pass the drink! (smile)Am drunk with God's love, which is more intoxicating than wine. The Sufis regard God's love equal to the intoxication of the wine. :) If you want, I can pass the drink to you. :)Gladly. Pass it over, and allow me to fill my cup, until it runneth over!
