My New Year's Resolution: No More Resolutions

Even as a child, I never quite understood why a person waited until the new year to do things
different in life; I made changes as they appeared to be needed in my life.  And yes, even as a child.

When I was 6 or 7 years old, I decided that I wasn't going to sneak into my Christmas gifts again ... why?  Because I didn't want to get into trouble, again.  Well, more like embarrassed, but still in trouble (smile).  This wasn't a New Year's resolution, but a decision to better myself, and it came way before New Years.  Matter-of-fact, it came before Christmas (a long story).

Examples of this can be found throughout my year, and not just for a "new year"; I was determined to learn multiplication.  Do you think I waited until the new year to do so?  Apparently not, if you knew my Math teacher at the time.

Not to go too far off the path of my subject, I want to know what is the big deal with waiting all year to 'better' yourself.  You see this mess in your life all year, and then wait until a "new year" to get it right?  Sounds a bit absurd to me.  Pardon me, but I'm not trying to step on anyone's hope of being a better/smaller/bigger/functional/working person.  I just would like to know why these people hold off until a new year.  Okay, I get the whole "new year. New me" ordeal, but hey - become a better you throughout the year!

With feelings like this, I made my New Year's resolution as having no resolutions at all a very long time ago.  I am free to make tremendous changes to my life, and its journey year-round.  Believe it or not, it's wonderful, and I don't feel obligated to accomplish anything at a certain time of the year; who actually does that?

Happy New Year to all!

I think continuous improvement is a great way to live. Not just once a year. I did resolve to be more giving this year. Last year was a year of self. UGH. Happy New Year Ronyea.
