A very small, five-letter word with such a huge action - relax!  Sometimes I get so busy with day-to-day activities and responsibilities, I tend to forget how to relax.

There was a time when I would turn to my writing as a form of relaxing.  But, of course with writing being my livelihood now-a-days, this is definitely not my 'go-to' form of relaxing ... it becomes very stressful!

I don't have to tell you how stress is deadly to your health.  Take some time and relax every now and then.  Sometimes, relaxing doesn't necessarily mean to put on your cozy PJs and cuddle under your bed covers - although it sounds like the perfect plan!  Relaxing in that form is so close to going to bed, you may as well 'call it a night' and actually go to bed for the ultimate way of relaxing.

There are many ways a person can relax, and depending on the person, the choices vary tremendously.

Some people can relax with a good book, music or soothing sounds.  I have known many women to cook as a form of relaxing - I don't understand how - and find comfort in creating a feast for her family.

The best way I've found out to relax is to block all the negative issues, and busy-body actions making you tense ... thus, becoming stressed.  If you clear your mind and sit/lay still for some time (but not too long), you'll find yourself very relaxed and ready to take on your duties.

Now, this will NOT work if you allow outside noises and mental images/thoughts to occupy this time set aside to relax.  If possible, shutdown your cellphone, or put it on vibrate; if there is a landline involved, turn the ringer off; ignore your doorbell for a moment, and take time for yourself.  You will be amazed at how rejuvenated you feel after you have taken time to relax!

I could go on and on on how to relax, and things I do to relax.  I am only giving this short article to put focus on the main point: Just relax!  Don't take life so seriously, but do take it one day at a time!

I love your honesty - "I have known many women to cook as a form of relaxing - I don't understand how" - that's me. I got kicked out of the kitchen in my household years ago. Cooking is not my thing. However, I can bake some awesome cookies or banana bread!

Thanks Liesl for commenting. I see you and I are opposites-lafn. I'm not much of a baker, but through me a full course meal, and I got it all the way!
