I must say...Is this a law made by someone without a cellphone?
Regardless of all the comments and cautions put forth regarding cellphone usage, I would have never imagined California banning them [cellulars]...this must be a plot to persuade Americans against the usage of the wireless communication, but yet again, why???
But today, California, a place that is known for housing our most infamous and ridiculously busy and 'famous' persons is planning to "ban" cell phone usage while driving...HA! I couldn't see a mother in the Bay area trying to keep her Valley-girl daughter from the streets of Compton, without the newly evolved 'Disney Mobile' cellphone service. There is no way I could remember to attend my photo shoot at 5 p.m. at Paramount, when while on my way to a luncheon with Bobby DeNiro, my publicist contacts me as I'm speeding on Interstate 10, piling on the last touches of blush, glossing my lips, and checking my hair in the rear-view mirror...Snap, I dropped my lipstick case, and just as I hit the accept button on my cell---CRASH!!!! I hit that old lady that was taking too long to cross the street.
Well she was trying to cross the street on a 'don't walk' signal, am I reprimanded? Actually, there should be a law to permit us {cell-users} a sort of ammenity when we're just too busy to see the world is actually revolving on an axis, and not around us!!!
BAN CELLphone usage while driving? Don't think so, that's the only way to communicate. Actually, that's the only time we have to communicate: while we are on our way!!!

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)Ronyae, good article! While I believe that you and others are probably very responsible drivers, I have found in my own personal experience that a good conversation on the phone can be very distracting. I am not sure that I would advocate an outright ban on driving and talking on the cell, but I do know that it can cause problems. Looking forward to your next one - keep writin' girl!I must admit Joseph....Although I am one of few of those 'good' drivers, I too have witnessed the drastic dangers of people trying to maintain driving or staying focused on driving while using cellphones. Since I wrote this article, I too, am very supportive of the 'banning' of cellphone usage while driving.Even though I've given good points to support the people that are against the ban...I still favor to ban them. Thanks for reading and sharing your comment.
I am probably the bad guy you are looking for. While I had nothing to do with the introduction of this law I really like it. I got rid of my cellphone back in the 90's and never went back. I feel they give me another way to isolate myself from the people I am with and the activities I am involved in. The cellphone disrupted my mindfullness of day to day life.I do also believe they are unhealthy do to the radio waves, and can be very distracting while driving and walking. I love to sit by the window in my office and watch students texting and walking. Some are very good and two students both doing something on there phones will ofter avoid each other like some invisible force field just guides them around one another. I have also seen some pretty humorous situations where they walk into trash cans, or tables.I think when you drive you should drive not chill on the phone.I enjoy your writing and topics.Thank You Mr. Bond(hehe-I just had to say it),I appreciate you reading this; this was a very old entry for me with this site; I'm in agreeance with this statement you made: "..unhealthy do to the radio waves, and can be very distracting while driving and walking...", it rings very true to me.And thanks for sharing your thoughts, don't be a stranger. Happy Holidays
